The most planted red grape variety of Cyprus. It disposes very big, compact cluster and big berries with thick skin. It appears to require fresh and deep soil. Mavro cultivated in the terroir of the Vouni Panayia area can produce light red wines with pleasant aromas and fresh rose’ wines with fruity and floral aromas. Finally it is one of the two varieties used for the production of the sweet wine of Commandaria and the traditional spirit of Zivania.
